There are many birds to be discovered in your own backyard. Go outside and see what you can find. This male Goldfinch was enjoying some Thistle seed at my bird feeder. I don't know why he always sings "potato chip" when he prefers Nyjer/Thistle seed.
How did you know this was a male? He is a beautiful boy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great question! During the summer months and mating season the male Goldfinch is more colorful and his bright yellow body and black wings contrast beautifully and make him so colorful. However the female is a drab olive green. This helps to camoflage her during nesting season. During the winter months his plumage is not as bright and vibrant.
